CADRRE is envisioned as a 25-30 acres barrier-free campus within 30km of Trivandrum city dedicated to rehabilitation, research and education in the area of autism. It will have a vibrant best-of-its-class campus, with classrooms, intervention facilities, seminar halls, labs and workshops to meet the unique requirements of a holistic center like CADRRE. The key consideration while designing the physical infrastructure will be to adhere to the principles of Universal Design. This will include aspects such as designing for both physical and informational accessibility, such as making all spaces in the campus wheelchair accessible, and attention paid to a building’s acoustics, lighting, tactility and smell, all very important aspects in prioritizing the needs of people with a wide range of sensory abilities. Supportive and assistive technologies will be a critical part of CADRRE infrastructure. The design of buildings and spaces throughout the camps will meet or exceed the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) specifications, with due attention to using renewable energy, water recycling, and rainwater harvesting.
